Plein Air Pastel Workshop with Patricia Hilton, September 23-24, 2011

Experience the excitement of learning about and painting outdoors with pastels—an accessible, portable art medium. This workshop will prepare participants to paint ‘en plein air’ (in the open air). Discussion will include interpreting a scene; endeavoring to capture the quality of light; and conveying an individual viewpoint—through use of color and contrast, and depicting reflected light. The class will begin on Friday afternoon with a discussion focused on a set of examples. Guidance will be provided to help participants plan and prepare for working in the open air. The next day, the group will work outdoors; or in the case of inclement weather, outdoors under shelter. The cost of the workshop is $75; deadline for registration is September 9.
